The opinions expressed here, while probably right and certainly smart, are their own, and are not necessarily reviewed in advance by anyone but the individual author. Sometimes, the author is audacious and decides to post an opinion without a buddy reviewing it, and at other times, he or she may seek counsel of a friend. Regardless, these opinions do not necessarily reflect the view of Intuit or any other person or company. Although, since these people are smart to begin with, Intuit might agree with them - or might not.

So long for now. Zipingo's Last Hurrah on August 23, 2007

Dear Zipingoneer,

On August 23, 2007, we'll say goodbye to Zipingo. We realize what a valuable resource you've made it, so let us explain why we made this tough decision.

Here at Intuit, we focus on one core principle: watch what people do in their everyday lives and help them do it better. As we've always said, Zipingo was born based on the principle of people helping people and the vision of making bad service a thing of the past. We built Zipingo to solve a huge problem for both consumers and small businesses alike - to help consumers like you find the best local businesses and to help those local businesses get the business they deserve.

So, as employees of Intuit, we continue to watch what people do and figure out how we can make their lives better. In doing so, we've realized that there are other priorities we need to focus on outside of Zipingo, causing us to shut down the site and remove access through Quicken products. This doesn't mean the problem that Zipingo tried to solve isn't incredibly important, because it is. We encourage you to continue our quest and seek out other similar resources in your community to bring consumers and the best local businesses together.

We'd also like to give you the opportunity to share any feedback with the Quicken Team on this decision. While we can't promise a response, we're interested in what you have to say.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who contributed to Zipingo. Your feedback made it a valuable resource that impacted your communities and it will be remembered.

All the best,
The Zipingo Team

A Loyal Quicken Customer

When we (customers) first heard of Zipingo, we said "what?!" Now that I've checked back and learned the site closed, a year after the fact, it becomes obvious why. A more lasting business model - and one which would still gain traction - would be to partner with a ratings site, such as Yelp!. Intuit as a ratings site was out of its core business. But as a vehicle for Quicken users to provide feedback through another site (such as Yelp, where it's their core business), it would be useful.

Anyway, good luck to the Zipingo team.
